The Farm is owned by Antonio Wander Garcia and his wife, and managed for many years by Diquinho who is more of an old family friend.
The farm was purchased in 1994, and from the time it was purchased has evolved into a family project with the whole family working together with the employees of the farm to create this very special coffee. That is why we decided to name this lot Diquinho, in honour of his work in creating this coffee.
While the whole family is involved here it is their son André Luiz who is a trained and experienced agronomist and who previously worked as a researcher at a foundation specializing in pruning practices. He has been overseeing the particular prep for this lot, along with the manager, Diquinho, of the farm Santa Lucia. Diquinho has been working with the family for many years and cares for the farm as if it was his own.
The farm covers 123 hectares, ranging in altitude from 950 to 1300 meters above sea level. 30 hectares of which are used for cultivating coffee and the farm produces on average of 1000 bags. They are growing red and yellow Catuai, yellow Catucai, Mundo Novo and Acaiá and naturally processing their coffee.
The farm usually sees flowering in September and the cherries are then harvested in the month of July
Region: Sul de Minas
Altitude: 900-1020
Variety: Colombia & Castillo
Processing: Natural
Farm size: 123 hectares
Processing
The cherries are handpicked and “naturally processed”. Normally the process gives you a sweeter coffee because of sugar migration from the pulp into the beans. The coffees are picked when evenly ripe, and hand sorted for over and under ripe cherries before dried on patio. They continue picking out all the defected coffee cherries they can find during this period.
Drying
Currently the coffees are dried on a cement patio and Diquinho works hard to keep the quality that came from the tree.
